magic

MAGIC
The magic in Serendipity is based on the standard D&D schools of magic, with each House having special focus in particular schools. The schools that each House focuses on are related to the specific interests and goals of the House, and each has one highly-focused specialty. Any of the Houses may also teach potions and alchemy related to their House specialties. Characters may sign up with two Houses at a time to study in their specific schools of magic, and may change which Houses they're signed up with at any given time.

There are no hard-and-fast rules about how and how quickly characters may learn magic, as different characters may have different aptitudes. Just try to keep it realistic - learning magic isn't easy and will take a while!

Please note that some forms of magic listed can drastically affect other characters, such as mind control or changing people into animals. These types of magic should always be discussed OOCly before they're used on other characters, and should always be temporary unless both parties agree otherwise.

HOUSE LIFE

House Life focuses on magic that has to do with life, death, and living organisms.

☆ PLANT & GROWTH MAGIC The highly-focused specialty magic of House Life is to do with plants and growth. This can include spells that encourage growth in plants or communicate with them, that bend plants to the will of the magic caster, harness the poison in plants, or otherwise interact with plant life.

☆ CONJURATION Conjuration magic creates objects and creatures, or causes them to disappear. In the context of House Life, these are going to be spells that mostly relate to animal or plant life, or elements that support them such as water or earth.

☆ NECROMANCY Necromancy affects the balance of the energy within living things, the balance between life and death. While it's classically known as raising the dead, there are many other applications of Necromancy, including resurrection, encouraging growth, healing, and curing necrotic damage.

HOUSE STONE

House Stone focuses on magic that has to do with protection, defense, and the element of earth.

☆ STONE & EARTH MAGIC The highly-focused specialty magic of House Stone has to do with manipulating stone and earth. This can include elemental stone or earth spells, causing quakes, forming items out of stone, changing the form of earth (for example, from stone or sand to soil), or otherwise altering or creating stone or earth.

☆ ABJURATION Abjuration magic is focused on protection and barriers. House Stone focuses particularly on defensive barriers of either energy or stone, including walls and shields. This school of magic may also be used defensively to dispel other spells, place limits on use of magic, or otherwise counteract 'enemy' magic.

☆ EVOCATION Evocation magic is classical offensive magic - fireballs, energy blasts, waves of icy cold or unbearable sound. This is a pretty simple class of magic, which basically encompasses 'battle magic' that can be used for defense, offense, or even more practical uses like controlled burns or irrigation.

HOUSE RIVER

House River focuses on magic that has to do with gathering knowledge, altering the forms of things, and the the element of water.

☆ WATER MAGIC The highly-focused specialty magic of House River has to do with manipulating water in its many forms. This can include elemental water spells, redirecting and controlling water, creating water, or using water to cause changes to the world (for example, erode a trench in the ground by conjuring water).

☆ DIVINATION While Divination is classically known as telling the future, it also includes spells that reveal any kind of knowledge to the caster. This can include reading ancient texts that couldn't be otherwise translated, identifying unknown objects, finding the meaning of things, solving puzzles, and tracking items or people.

☆ TRANSMUTATION Transmutation involves changing the form of items or living creatures. This can include temporarily changing a person into an animal, making something intangible or invisible, shrinking or enlarging things, or changing one substance into another, such as copper into gold.

HOUSE SUN

House Sun focuses on magic that affects the mental state or perception of people, and weather magic.

☆ WEATHER MAGIC The highly-focused specialty magic of House Sun has to do with weather and the manipulation of it. This can include causing storms or rain, making the sun shine brighter, drying up floods, altering atmospheric pressure to cause wind, summoning lightning strikes or thunder, or other magic related to the weather. While these effects can be very powerful, they're always temporary because changing the weather is a very difficult thing.

☆ ENCHANTMENT Enchantment magic affects the mental state of other living things that can think, both that of people and animals. It may cause people to behave in ways they normally wouldn't behave, temporarily control the mind of another person, change priorities, affect the emotions, or otherwise alter how people think and feel.

☆ ILLUSION Illusion magic is quite straightforward - it manipulates the senses of other people or animals to make them believe that something is real when it is not. This may include visual illusions such as making someone believe they are being chased by a monster or that their entire appearance has changed, auditory or sensory illusions such as making someone believe that they're freezing, overheating, or hearing the voices of loved ones. Any spell that makes a person believe something is happening when it is not is illusion magic.

setting and locations

SETTING

☆ SERENTALI Nestled in a shallow valley between two mountain ranges that converge in the distance is a beautiful stretch of country with fertile, rolling hills and fields dotted with thick stands of forest. Largely uninhabited, the only structure that stands in this temperate land is the Ivory Castle, which stands at the edge of the valley where it drops off into cliffs that border on a seemingly endless ocean. This land is called Serentali, a nearly-empty place, a fledgling world just waiting to be settled by an incoming population that was displaced from their own home. On the other side of both mountain ranges, however, the planet is a desert, bone dry and uninhabitable.

☆ HISTORY The unnamed planet on which Serentali is situated originated as a massive dustbowl - without water, animals, plants, or any other sort of life beyond bacterial, it was a wasteland. This is how it was found by a group of people fleeing a dying world in the next solar system over, a planetful of people in stasis and seeking a new home. Once the planet was found, the ship they traveled on set down, buried itself into the ground, and a group of approximately 500 people awakened to begin terraforming. Through use of magic, they created the land of Serentali and built the Ivory Castle over their buried ship. However, it wasn't easy - they were weak and frail for many years following the long time they spent in stasis, and while the bulk of the work could be done with magic and techniques that didn't take much out of them, they realized that they would need more help with the next step, help from people who hadn't been compromised physically in the way they had been when they awakened. So, instead of waking more of their fragile people, they decided to reach out elsewhere...

☆ PEOPLE The one thing that Serentali has very few of is people. There is a small population of around 500, all of which live in the Ivory Castle, who have divided into followers of the various Houses, depending on their goals and personalities. This population was the first wave of the settlement of the planet Serentali is on, and they are the ones who terraformed the valley to what it is today and made it so that this small ecosystem thrives on the otherwise uninhabitable planet.

☆ CLIMATE Serentali has a temperate climate with highs of 95F/35C in summer and 23F/-5C in winter. There tends to be frequent precipitation during the spring and fall, with warm summers and snow in the wintertime. The land is fertile which will allow for a wide variety of crops to be grown once space is cleared and the soil is tilled. There is a decent mixture of evergreen and deciduous trees in the patches of forest that dot the valley, and the mountains are covered with a thick evergreen forest that tapers off as the mountains climb to snowy white peaks.

☆ FLORA AND FAUNA The plants and animals inhabiting Serentali will be pretty familiar to people the temperate zones on Earth, though with slight variations. There are plenty of deer and elk, wild goats, sheep, cows, and pigs, moose, and bears, wolves, coyotes, and foxes, as well as a wide variety of wild birds. However, there are also more fantastical creatures that are yet to be discovered. The plants that grow cover a wide variety, perhaps more of a variety than on Earth, with plenty of edible grains, fruit trees, berry bushes, and copious amounts of thick grass that livestock might graze on once they've been captured and tamed.
LOCATIONS
☆ THE IVORY CASTLE This is the sole piece of construction on the planet as of the start of the game. This castle houses the entire population of residents and has plenty of additional room to house any new arrivals willing to help with the creation of infrastructure. The Castle boasts a massive library, kitchens, storage rooms with preserved food, and other necessities for life. It also contains entertainment options in the form of ballrooms, musical instruments, a massive library, and performance spaces.

☆ HOUSE ACCOMMODATIONS More in-depth information on these can be found on the Housing page, but each House has a sprawling network of apartments and living accommodations to support nearly twice its current population. The accommodations for each House are well-suited to the people who will live in them, providing the necessities of life and comfortable surroundings for people who can vary widely in personality and goals.

☆ KITCHENS Boasting large banks of wood-burning stoves and ice boxes, the kitchens can be used by cooks and other staff to provide huge meals for the entire populace of the Castle. However, due to the reduced population and their important jobs terraforming the planet, it's almost never used for that purpose. Most of the accommodations in the Castle have their own individual kitchenettes and cooking areas, so this big kitchen is almost never staffed.

☆ LIBRARY The library in the Ivory Castle is absolutely massive, containing all of the books that were brought from the population's previous home. It has multiple stories, ladders that people can use to climb up to get books on higher shelves, and a large amount of desks and comfortable chairs to sit in. It also has wide windows that let the sunshine in with windowsill reading nooks tucked in the bases of them, and plants settled on various surfaces to add a bit of greenery to the place. The library is one of the most frequently-used places in the Castle.

☆ ENTERTAINMENT There are a wide variety of options for entertainment in the Castle. Besides the library, which contains ample non-fiction books of all varieties, there are also music rooms and game rooms that boast a wide variety of instruments and games ranging from pub games to board games and card games. There are several lounges with well-stocked bars. There are also ballrooms where parties can be hosted and performance spaces where people can put on plays or perform music for enraptured audiences.

☆ GREENHOUSES AND CONSERVATORIES There are a series of large greenhouses off the courtyard of the Castle where gardening can be done, and which contain a variety of plant life both edible and not. There are also many conservatories and sunrooms around the Castle where residents can relax and read a book while soaking up the sun and keeping warm in winter.

☆ POOL AND ASSOCIATED FACILITIES Located in an outdoor conservatory that stays warm throughout the year, the Ivory Castle boasts a lovely indoor swimming pool, magically-powered hot tub, and both wet and dry sauna facilities. The area has obviously been decorated by Mother, and the glass walls are crawling with lush vines and leaves, as well as many plants and garden areas, which gives the pool a sort of natural feeling.

☆ SPARRING AND EXERCISE FACILITIES There is a large armory that contains various types of weapons (primarily edged weapons, bludgeons, bow and arrows etc. - no guns), both real and dummy weapons with dulled edges. Next to the armory is a sparring and practice room where characters may use the weapons or magic to spar with each other or interact with magical sparring dummies that heal any damage after a session.

☆ ETC. More to be added as players create!

housing

HOUSING

Before characters are able to settle into homes they build, they are offered places to live in the House Quarters. Characters are welcome to pick based solely on what kind of housing they're most comfortable in, as each House has different accommodations to offer. The nature of each House's accommodations can be found below.

Please note: Characters are not required or requested to join any of the Houses, and accommodations are meant to be chosen based on what would make your character most comfortable and feel most at home, not House affiliation.

HOUSE STONE

House Stone lives in a system of underground dwellings, primarily one and two bedroom apartments with small kitchenettes with wood stoves and ice boxes. Each apartment has a fireplace in each room, exceedingly comfortable soft beds, and the general area is kept slightly warmer than other housing complexes. The walls and furniture is made of formed and rough-hewn stone, with the furniture kitted out with thick, soft padding.

There is a large communal room with a huge fireplace, desks with writing supplies, oversize stuffed couches and chairs to sit and chat in, and a large table with chairs for communal eating if desired. There are also ample amounts of games to be played - darts, cards, board games, tabletop sports games, just about any type of game you can think of.

HOUSE SUN

Located in the upper stories of the Ivory Castle, the dwellings of House Sun are large and airy, with high ceilings and lots of windows to let the light in. The dwellings are generally one or two bedroom apartments that are a little more on the modern end, with sleek wood stoves and ice boxes. Every apartment has a desk and office area with ample supplies for writing, and a mini-library stocked with non-fiction books and research materials.

There is a large communal room that has a fireplace and the second-largest library in the castle after the main library. There are more desks located near the library walls, and a fashionable but comfortable couch and armchairs scattered about in front of the fireplace. There are also several reading nooks by the windows.

HOUSE RIVER

House River's accommodations are located on the main ground floor of the Ivory Castle, with a good view of the ocean that the castle borders on. The apartments for House River have only one or two bedrooms, a small sitting area with a fireplace, and a desk. The quarters are comfortable and decorated specifically with the aim of being soothing and comforting, with a small waterfall inset in the sitting room wall to provide the constant soft sound of running water.

In place of in-apartment kitchenettes, the House River common room has a large kitchen with two large wood stoves, a massive fireplace with a cauldron hung over it, and two ice boxes intended for communal cooking and eating. The common room also includes a large table for eating together as well as comfortable couches and armchairs arranged around a smaller fireplace. Through the middle of the common room, there is a small artificial river that can be easily crossed on a large number of stepping stones or over a small bridge.

HOUSE LIFE

Also located on the main floor of the Ivory Castle, House Life's dwellings are paneled with wood and decorated in warm shades of moss green. One wall of each apartment is entirely comprised of windows lined with shelves containing dozens of plants and living in one of these apartments includes the responsibility of caring for them (there's a guide included, don't worry!). Each apartment has a kitchenette equipped with wood stove and ice box, one or two bedrooms, and a sitting room with a fireplace and a desk.

The common room for House Life is inside a giant conservatory and sun room, complete with more plants, a large fireplace, comfortable rustic furniture, a small library that's mostly stocked with books on plants and farming, and a long table for communal eating if so desired. There is also a small area where residents can repot plants, make cuttings, and experiment with plants. There is a large door that leads to an indoor garden as well, dotted with benches where residents can sit and enjoy the ambiance.

ARRIVAL
IN CHARACTER

Characters arrive immediately following a dream in which they speak to Mother, the head of House Life, who has offered them a chance to have their deepest desires fulfilled in exchange for helping to set up the infrastructure in the land of Serentali. Once the agreement is reached, the character falls backward into the water and falls into a deep, dreamless sleep.

The character will awaken several hours later feeling refreshed, floating face-up in a pool of pink-tinged water in a loose white robe. Upon exiting the water, they will find all of their clothing and belongings that they had with them when they fell asleep before the dream. Once they exit the room through a large arch, they will find themselves in the courtyard of the Ivory Castle, the seat of power in Serentali. Here, they will be greeted by attendants who will explain the setting and Houses, how to sign up to learn magic, and will be escorted to the House quarters that best suit what they want in a home.

After this, the characters will be free to do whatever they'd like in game.

rules and mechanics

RULES
☆ BE EXCELLENT TO EACH OTHER Treat other players the way you wish to be treated, have respect, and don't forget that you are communicating with real human beings with real and valid feelings.

Communicate freely, and if you're struggling with another player, please contact the mod and I will mediate.

Don't powergame, and remember that IC and OOC are different things and should be treated as such.

Stay in character and participate in the game, which shows your respect for your fellow players' time and comfort levels.

There is a zero-tolerance policy for bullying and abuse. This includes manipulation or intimidation of other players or the mod, and the use of racist, homophobic, transphobic, or other discriminatory language either in the game communities, in private messages, or on plurk, whether or not it pertains to the game.

☆ MOD HANDLING OF PLAYER COMPLAINTS All complaints should be brought to the mod by private message and require proof of bad behavior. Most infractions will receive a warning before strict action is taken, but bullying or use of discriminatory language will be actioned with removal from the game. This includes infractions predating the game, so players may either be pre-banned or enter the game with a warning if proof of bad behavior is provided. While the mod will make every effort to listen to both sides of the story, the name of the complainant will not be provided if the mod suspects it will lead to further bullying or harassment. Complaints or feedback sourced solely from anonymous communities or that are provided anonymously (including sock puppet accounts) will be disregarded.
GAME MECHANICS
Serendipity is a panfandom slice-of-life game with a focus on CR and character development, with plenty of opportunities for things to do. In exchange for the granting of their dearest wish, characters are invited to populate a nearly-empty world run by a kingdom in four Houses and create an infrastructure for an incoming populace. Every second month, characters are invited to vote for initiatives presented by each House that will alter the landscape of the world itself.

Characters will have the opportunity to learn magic, share dreams and memories, and participate in events that will drive and encourage development and exploration of both CR and characters themselves. There will also be missions focused on gathering resources, world building, and safety of the population.

APPLICATIONS & ACTIVITY

☆ ACCEPTED CHARACTER TYPES Serendipity will be accepting applications for both canon characters and original characters. AUs, CRAUs, and doubles are not being accepted.

Tabletop characters will be considered original characters.
Malleable protagonists will be considered canon characters.
Cross-franchise doubles are not accepted. Only one version of any character can be in the game at any given time.
Canon AUs will be accepted, providing the AU is presented in canon. However, the doubles rule still applies.
Non-human characters will not be humanized or have their sizes changed unless the player prefers it.
Dead or badly injured characters will be healed upon entry to the game.
Characters with minimal screen time are able considered appable so long as their applications can be written without headcanon. Extrapolating on what exists in canon is fine!
New canons or new material for existing canons should be waited on for one month after worldwide release to allow other players to experience the canon without spoilers. In cases where new material includes flashbacks or new information on things that previously happened, there is no need to wait before incorporating the new information, but please tag subject lines for spoilers and check in with your threadmates.

☆ APPLICATIONS ARE ALWAYS OPEN Applications will always be open, however, after the first thirty players are accepted, we will be moving to an invite-only system.

☆ GAME INVITATIONS Once the game accepts its first thirty players, it will revert to invite-only status. Non-invite app periods may happen again if the game is not of sufficient size to comfortably operate on invites alone. If the open period is closed and you want to join but don't know anyone in the game, mod invitations are available. Please PM the mod journal to request an invitation, and be sure to include the reasons you want to join the game, the character you're interested in, and any plans you have for your time in the game.

☆ CHARACTER LIMIT There is no game cap or player cap, but each player will be allowed a maximum of three characters in the game at any given time.

☆ CHARACTER ABILITIES Characters will not have their abilities nerfed, except in the case of game-breaking abilities (for example, reality altering, traveling between dimensions, time travel). Characters can learn to wield magic from the four Houses in game, however, whether or not they have their own superhuman abilities.

☆ ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS Activity check will always be open via the Activity Check page, and the mod will sweep for incomplete activity on the last day of every month. There will be no AC warning lists, though the mod will post announcements about AC timing on plurk. Activity requirements are check-in with a short description of what the character has been doing for the month.

GAME BASICS

☆ THE FOUR HOUSES & HOUSE INITIATIVES The kingdom of Serentali, where the game is set, is run by a council consisting of the leaders of four Houses: Stone, Sun, River, and Life. Characters aren't necessarily invited to join any of these Houses, as they are considered to be impermanent residents, but they can sign up with two Houses at any given time to learn their unique style of doing magic. At the beginning of every second month, the leader of each House will present an initiative that will affect the world, and characters are invited to vote ICly for the initiative they prefer. Initiatives will affect both events and the types of missions that are available and will be focused on as gamewide projects for the following two months, causing a concrete change to the world the characters live in. More information on the Houses can be found in the Houses & Voting section.

☆ DETAILS OF THE DEAL Characters are offered a deal prior to their entry to the game - they are invited to help set up a home for a population that's still in stasis, too weak to be awakened; in return they will receive their deepest desire, no matter what it is. Obviously, characters may have some questions about this deal. They would be told that the wish can be anything they want, but can only be granted once everything is set up for the true population of the world that is still sleeping under the Ivory Castle. They would also be told that, no matter how long it takes, they will be put right back where they were taken from in their world - no time will pass for the rest of the world at home, and they will be the same age they were when they left even if they might age in Serentali.

☆ CHARACTER WISHES The nature of a character's wish can vary wildly depending on the character - it can be something about themselves or another person, it can be something that would benefit them while they're in the game or something from home they desperately want to be changed. Additionally, characters do not need to know what their wish is. If they don't know what their fondest wish is, or if what they think is their fondest wish actually isn't, that's totally fine. Characters may also ask for what they think they want but actually receive something else that is their true fondest wish when the time comes.

☆ CHARACTER PURPOSE Characters are invited to Serentali to set up an infrastructure including housing, farms, businesses, and social systems in advance of the arrival of a population. While the game will initially have elements of survival, there are no horror elements. To start, characters will have safe places to live within the castle and some simple food staples, but will have to set up gardens and farms, raise livestock, and create goods or services either through magic or good old elbow grease. The initiatives suggested by the Houses will be offers of aid in support of one project or the other, which will give a significant boost to the work done on that aspect of creating infrastructure through the mutual backing of all the power of the four Houses.

☆ DREAM AND MEMORY SHARING In the interest of fostering a sense of community, the four Houses have banded together to host a shared memory or shared dreaming event every second event. Every fourth month, a mod-posted dream and/or memory share with a different theme or topic will be posted where characters can intermingle and experience these intimate parts of each others' lives in order to better understand each other. Dream and memory sharing will be opt out for those who don't want to participate, but the mechanics will also be in play all the time so that an "accidental" dream or memory share can happen in individual threads whenever players wish.

☆ PLAYER PROJECTS AND BUSINESSES Many characters come into the game with special skills or interests that would lend themselves to special projects or businesses geared either toward survival and/or setting up infrastructure or other areas of interest. Both projects and businesses are highly encouraged both ICly and OOCly, with the leaders of Serentali happily supporting character endeavors. Characters are welcome to work on special projects from sharing and using special farming techniques, conducting classes to teach others their skills, starting restaurants or bakeries, or creating goods or tools to sell. Be creative, anything is welcome!

☆ HIATUS AND DROP EXPLANATIONS When characters are on hiatus they're generally assumed to be on autopilot, though you can state anything you'd like your character to be doing on your hiatus note. When characters are dropped and found to be missing, the House leaders will explain it as the character having done everything they could but being needed at home, and will tell other characters that the departed person had a smaller wish fulfilled in exchange for the help they've provided thus far.

☆ CANON UPDATES When players wish to canon update, their characters will be spirited back to their world, to the exact time they left home, then returned at the new canon point to the exact time they left Serentali. The explanation ICly is that the House leaders determined that something in the character's home happened that was so important they had to go back and live it before continuing their help in Serentali. OOCly, there is no special mechanic for canon updates and they can happen at any time.

☆ NETWORK There are several communication networks in Serentali, created and maintained with magic. As characters start to arrive, the heads of the Houses have created a new network specifically for them with interlinked magical devices that they can use to communicate. These devices look almost like panes of glass the size of a small tablet with a silvery frame around them, and are capable of communicating via text, voice, and video, as well as voice-to-text and vice versa for people with sensory impairment or who are illiterate; these messages can be either private or broadcast to everyone's tablets to be responded to. They are activated when a new user presses their palm against the pane, and then 'bond' to that person so they can only be used by them. The interfaces can vary depending on the person, and they adapt to suit the way the user interacts with the tablet.

☆ MONTHLY TIMELINE The game operates on an alternating-month model, with events, voting, test drives, and other events being offset to reduce the mod workload a little and allow players time to finish things before jumping to the next event or mission. Please see below for the schedule for each month.

HOUSES & VOTING

☆ HOUSE STONE The leader of House Stone is named Chanda, a tall, broad very dark-skinned woman with plenty of visible tattoos and scarification. Somewhat stern and reserved, she only speaks when it's necessary for her to do so, and what she says is always very much worth listening to.

House Stone is dedicated to the protection and security of the people, securing habitation and safe places to live, and the infrastructure of roads. It's also devoted to the social structure of the people, including law and order, and to putting in place social infrastructure to help those in need and protect those who are vulnerable.

☆ HOUSE SUN The leader of House Sun is named Shihala, a small-statured, sprightly man with long blond hair who is very socially outgoing and speaks effusively. Never seen without his pair of magnifying spectacles, he's a veritable fountain of trivia and factoids, as well as deeper knowledge and wisdom.

House Sun is dedicated to knowledge and research, to the gathering and creation of folklore and stories, and to understanding the nature of people. Members of House Sun can often be found maintaining and using the library, and many of them keep commonplace books full of information about the world they live in and the ways that it's being formed in. They are also very interested in the psychology of people and why they do the things they do.

☆ HOUSE RIVER The leader of House River is named Swimming Horse, a tall, lanky person with long black hair braided back from their face and sharp facial features. Despite their stern exterior, they are a very caring person, always ready to offer advice or reassurance to anyone who needs it.

House River is dedicated to exploration and transport of goods, to finding new places and new resources and anything else new. They are also devoted to the well-being of the people, working hard to promote good morale and make sure that everyone is taken care of. Most parties and festivals that are thrown in Serentali are the work of people from House River.

☆ HOUSE LIFE The leader of House Life is known only as Mother, a dark-skinned woman with hair like a soft cloud and an equally soft body, the perfect type to give excellent hugs. She speaks quietly when she does speak, though often she refrains from talking at all and simply shares her thoughts. She is the woman who appears to new arrivals in dreams.

House Life is devoted to growth, whether it's physical, mental, or emotional. This includes plant and animal related magic and farming techniques. Those in House Life enjoy tending to plants and creating new varieties through splicing offshoots; they also enjoy animal husbandry and breeding and caring for animals.

☆ VOTING On every second month, the Houses will each present an initiative that will assist with the purpose of creating infrastructure in Serentali. These initiatives will be posted on the 20th of every second month to open the voting period, and voting will close on the 27th of the month. Once voting is closed, the votes will be tallied and the initiative with the most votes will determine the focus and nature of the events and missions that will be posted on the first of the next two months.

MISSIONS & PLAYER PLOTS

☆ MISSIONS Missions will be posted by the mod on the first of each month, and will generally consist of tasks that can be completed by characters to help with the character purpose. For example, there may be missions to gather seeds from plants that grant strange effects, to hunt animals for food, to clear land for creating garden patches, to build certain types of dwellings, etc. These missions are completely optional and are more writing prompts than anything. Missions will be catered specifically to the initiative that's been most recently voted on, and while they are primarily writing prompts, players may check in with the mod if they have threaded out a mission to add to the projected success of the initiative.

☆ PLAYER PLOTS Your mod is extremely open to and excited about player plots. If there's something you want to do, please contact the mod by PM to suggest the idea. Generally, your mod aims to say 'yes' and will do anything possible to facilitate player plots. Please bring me your ideas even if you think there's a chance it might be too much, and we'll see what we can work out. The point of an RP game is to have fun, and I want you to be able to have fun and feel like you have an impact on the world of the game, to feel like your character can make their own space in the world of the game. Even if your idea does end up being too much to facilitate as-is, I'll work with you to find an alternative idea that will hopefully be as much fun to play as the original idea.

MAGIC & MEMORY/DREAM SHARING

☆ EVENT BASED Every second event log will be a dream and memory sharing event, where characters may experience each others' dreams and/or memories. Each event will have a different theme, allowing for different types of dreams or memories to be shared. Memory and dream sharing will take place because of a magic spell woven by the four heads of the Houses, a powerful cooperative effort in the interest of fostering closer relationships between characters and opening up those who aren't inclined to share. During these events, characters will be lulled into a deep sleep and will exist within the dream realm, where characters will experience each others' memories and dreams in vivid detail, whether it's a single person or moment in time or a longer scene played out in real time. Characters will know what these events are and when they are happening, and while there is no IC way for characters to opt out, any player who doesn't want to participate can assume there was a glitch with the powerful magic of the spell or some other error that resulted in the character not being part of the event. One or two simple non-dream/memshare prompts will be provided on these months.

☆ INDIVIDUAL THREADS The spell woven by the four heads of House is a permanent spell - usually it is inactive except when they trigger it for the dream and memory sharing events. However, this spell is a very large and complex one that may have a few glitches here and there, and so players may use this mechanic at any time in an individual thread for smaller groups of characters to participate in dream or memory sharing.

☆ Samples: Provide 2-3 links to network and prose or action bracket styled threads that you have played with the character that are no more than one year old. These can be from memes, PSLs, test drives, other games, or any other non-friends-locked source so long as they provide an accurate depiction of how you play the character (ie. no "crack threads" or AUs that differ from how the character would be played in game). There is no length limit, but I need to get a good feeling for how you will be playing the character. Samples are the most heavily weighted part of the application.

premise

PREMISE
What is your most secret heart's desire?

It happens in a dream.

Standing on the surface of a body of water that stretches as far as the eye can see, you are surrounded by the pink, blue, and orange clouds of a beautiful sunset, reflecting in every direction until the world seems to be an endless expanse of beautiful colors. An ethereal woman approaches you, floating just above the surface of the water, her expression both vulnerable and knowing, her hands extended, her dark skin nearly glowing with power. Reaching out, she takes your hands in hers and makes eye contact.

No words are exchanged, but your mind is flooded with knowledge - this woman comes from an empty world, a world that needs people, that needs you. Her people settled a dead planet while fleeing the destruction of their own, but only a fraction of them were strong enough to be wakened from stasis so they could terraform somewhere to settle, to grow strong. It is a world that needs homes, needs cultivation, needs life, needs to be primed for the eventual populace that will awaken to settle it. The land is lush, fertile, and flush with raw magic.

And in return for your help, you are offered the granting of your most secret, deepest heart's desire, whether it's one you're conscious of or not. Any wish can be granted, for as your presence and the presence of others like you starts to form the world into what it will become, you will also be providing a focus for the world's magic, a focus that will make its power impossibly strong.

Once the world is prepared, anything is possible.

Serendipity is a panfandom slice-of-life game with a focus on CR and character development, with plenty of opportunities for things to do. In exchange for the granting of their dearest wish, characters are asked to populate a nearly-empty world and create an infrastructure for a populace that is still sleeping in stasis under the Ivory Castle. This world is run by a council formed of the heads of four Houses, each with its own interests and investments.
